In a way, it's useful if they provide a mark for the official Elon Musk account or the official Devin Nunes account. I hope people recognize it as "official to Twitter" and not "official in and of itself", as for example a politician tweeting from their official account is not the same as saying anything official.
Then, to be consistent, any and all parody accounts should be allowed for those because they will clearly not be mistaken for the real one. Right?
- stjohnswarts 4y agoAs much as I think they should have stuck to their previous scheme, I doubt they're just going to hand out "official" without checking into the validity of the account. It's going to be harder since they eliminated the vast majority of those people, but not impossible. This is unlikely to be the disaster that Musk critics are hoping for, but it won't be super smooth either.
- cyanydeez 4y agoDepends entirely on implementation. Remember when everyone praised WikiLeaks for exposing Democrats in 2016, then ignored that they also had a bunch of republican documents. If they play favorites, which people like musk have show little ethics against, then it's just a propaganda technique.
- sterlind 4y agoI'm not sure WikiLeaks itself had RNC documents, but please correct me if I'm wrong. WikiLeaks got its DNC emails from Guccifer 2.0, which seems to have been a front for the Russians. I found a story saying that the Russians had RNC docs too, but chose not to release them: https://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/12/10/report-russian-hackers-had-rnc-data-but-didn-t-release-it https://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/12/10/report-russi... can't find anything about WikiLeaks actually having RNC emails. not that WikiLeaks wasn't biased against the DNC, of course.
