The 2nd paragraph says that 88% of Fortune 500 companies in 1955 are now gone.
This isn't true. Follow the links. 88% of Fortune 500 companies in 1955 are not in the Fortune 500 today. That's very different.
Look at, say #497: Bullard Co, doing a "hefty" $50.2 million in annual revenue (~$510 million in 2022 dollars). It merged with White Consolidated Industries in 1968 with shareholders receiving stock in the deal. White Consolidated was purchased by Electrolux in 1986 with shareholders receiving a cash payment.
Electrolux is obviously still around, but is not listed on NASDAQ or NYSE. Is Bullard really "gone"?
