Elon Musk has discussed putting all of Twitter behind a paywall
- jojobas 4y agoIt's already behind a login wall, which without an adblocker is not far off. I'm surprised selling political influence to the highest bidder didn't play out.
- sohkamyung 4y agoEven without logging in, posts of Twitter remain readable to the outside world if you have a direct URL to the Twitter post. A paywall would mean that you can't access the content without logging in.
- encryptluks2 4y agoVery few parts... simply scrolling on a Twitter post will prevent you from reading the rest of the thread or comments.
- quantified 4y agoFully paid twitter, no advertiser pressure, would beba different ball game.
- rsynnott 4y agoIt was. It was called app.net. No-one used it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/App.net https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/App.net
- jleyank 4y agoI would think putting up a paywall would make a wonderful echo chamber. Can't see how random people would pay for social media after being trained and trained it's free.
- Flatcircle 4y agoThere’s a real possibility that pretty soon, most things on the internet are gonna be behind a paywall, anything that’s not will be riddled with ads and bots. I hope I’m wrong though.
- quonn 4y agoGood riddance. Back to the smaller communities of the early 2000s.
- underscore_ku 4y agogood luck with that...
- Ekaros 4y agoI wonder how many of the average users would stay if it wasn't free... Or even if just posting would cost money...
