Thinking About Mastodon
- ekianjo 4y agoYou don't get spam unless you follow spam accounts... ALso at the instance level you could easily have some spam account detection going on just like you do on emails. And for instances that engage in unmoderated spam, you can block such instances from being accessible from your instance. Many ways to deal with it.

What about notifications about people you don't follow who have replied to, boosted, or favorited your posts? > for instances that engage in unmoderated spam, you can block such instances from being accessible from your instance At which point they can just make new instances, since it's all allow-by-default.
- jrnichols 4y agomostly I wanted to note that his website is pretty cool and I like the layout. I love old mostly text stuff. I'm not sure what spam detection is in place on instances or if they're relying on user reports, but I've definitely seen spam in the Local Timeline before. Most of it (so far) seems to be crypto related, which isn't a surprise, but it's spam nonetheless. I think the next month will be interesting for the Fediverse.
