An ecosystem's tooling makes a huge difference apart from the first order properties of a programming language.
To mention here are:
* (sampling) profilers that work with unmodified applications
* stack traces
* easy to use heap/core-dumps
* a good debugger
* reliable refactoring
* code navigation
It is something that makes me very reluctant to adopt "cool new tech".
- grogenaut 4y agoreliable refactoring This is such a base assumption of mine that I didn't even think of putting it in a list till you said it and it lead me to recall how fast I leave languages that don't have real refactoring tools.
