I'm not sure whether the experiment is failing or not, but this is quite a biased article:
They enlisted an entire country in a publicity stunt and cheered on Bukele even as he ordered mass arrests and packed the Supreme Court, which subsequently ruled he could run for reelection despite a constitutional ban.
The mass arrests have nothing to do with the Bitcoin experiment? El Salvador notoriously has a big organised crime problem.
- zach_garwood 4y agoIsn't it telling that those organized crime interest pushed for the wide use of cryptocurrency?
- dustymcp 4y agoSort of like how porn started credit card payments?
- CaptainNemo17 4y agoDo you have any citations for this? As far as I'm aware porn companies don't accept credit cards. Pornhub is ach or some sort of crypto currency payments last time I checked. Porn and Weed companies struggle with banking because of the way the US System is set up. I have no idea what it's like outside the US
- nonameiguess 4y agoI've been buying studio-produced content with a Visa card for 20 years. The only porn companies having trouble with payment processors are the platforms that allow users to submit their own content, because of the difficulty in verifying age and consent of the performers. Any reputable production company has a notice up front in their films giving the contact info of a custodian of records that law enforcement can contact to get copies of government-issued ID and signed consent forms from all actors, for every scene. If you don't have that, then sure, you might have problems.
- CaptainNemo17 4y agooh that's interesting, today I learned. My porn research hasn't gone too far from Pornhub and friends so i guess thats why ive never seen one accept a credit card
- jbirer 4y agoBut what about human rights? Screw what the people in El Salvador think about the arrests. Listen to me, a western Twitter champion of human rights.
