Not a superstition. It's merely called Serendipity. Accidents are statistically just as likely to be 'good' accidents as 'bad' accidents. Evolution depends on the 'good' accidents. 'Neutral' or 'bad' accidents are discarded by Evolution - bad ones usually don't survive long enough to cause a problem to the mainstream species by passing on their faulty genes.
