AI/ML in Music Generation: The Infinite Monkey of Unappealing Noise
- qualudeheart 4y agoIncreasingly appealing year after year. Machine learning can improve faster than you can.
- Rochus 4y agoI'm not sure what the author is actually up to; he seems to intend to demonstrate that todays AI generated music is still far from being acceptable; I think that's true for most examples I checked, but there are exceptions (e.g. some of the https://openai.com/blog/musenet/ https://openai.com/blog/musenet/ examples are quite good; there also was an online tool called "Bachbot" which war really impressive); even his first example Beatdown (1998) is not bad, though it's a very simple kind of music where a lot of constraints can be applied to improve the result; the "Is this Drum & Bass?" example is quite nice, but the recording and mastering engineers did not do a good job (maybe I can recommend this one as an alternative, all played live by a single person: http://rochus-keller.ch/2022-04/JazzFusion2.mp3 http://rochus-keller.ch/2022-04/JazzFusion2.mp3 ); so all in all AI generated music has made some progress, but not as much as seen in other AI application domains; but even without AI I wouldn't recommend anyone to become a professional musician today; you can just as easily base your business model on lottery numbers.
