I don't want to be too New Age here, but spending time with your kid is infinitely more important than anything else you can do. Time lost, because, say, you had to file that last bug report, or stay on the phone the extra 30 minutes on Saturday, or whatever, is irreplaceable. Children are not going to say, "spend time with me". They are going to say, "look at this!" or "I like it when it rains" or "Im bored with school " and these are just some of the millions of ways they are asking for your time and attention. If you dont give it to them, theyll find people who will, and the outcomes will not be what you expect.
