Asterank
- zeristor 4y ago“Asterank is a scientific and economic database of over 600,000 asteroids. We've collected, computed, or inferred important data such as asteroid mass and composition from multiple scientific sources. With this information, we estimate the costs and rewards of mining asteroids.” I first heard of Asterank on HNews several years ago, I believe it was acquired later on. Highpoint of HNews for me. I love the idea. Although at a talk at the Royal Astronomical Society about Space Resource Use someone did encourage a more thoughtful use of asteroid resources, although many once they’ve gone they’ve gone. They’d be valuable to investigate and understand their creation/genesis/evolution (surely there’s a better word). Flip side should mining become viable dumping huge quantities on Earth could wreck the markets. Although one smart fellow (I forget who) pointed out the Nickel market would be big enough to take it.
