- Viliam1234 4y agoAs an anecdotal evidence, my wife told me that she first considered my complaints about work a red flag, but that happened when I was the only programmer she knew. As her social circle expanded to contain more programmers, she realized that all of them, without exception, were complaining about their jobs. (To compare, the people happy about their jobs are mostly teachers. Possibly a selection effect, because teachers who are not happy about their jobs simply quit; they can get a better paying job anywhere.) The part about "programming for 8 hours a day" only makes sense to me if I interpret it as doing the stuff the programmers do at their jobs: the dark Scrum, Jira tickets, endless meetings, open spaces, etc. Most programmers hate that with a passion; that is why many of us were so happy about Covid allowing us to work from home. Actual coding is quite fun, if it comes without the baggage.
