- kjkjadksj 4y agoOTOH a new construction multifamily apartment will probably have a lot of smoke detectors hooked up to the fire dept and sprinklers, regular inspections by the fire dept too, extinguishers and hand operated alarms, sometimes emergency ladders, while most single family homes just have that battery operated smoke alarm that will only beep, if anything at all for that matter. You pass out with a cigarette in a single family home and you are probably dying, at least with an apartment theres a chance a neighbor walking past your door smells it.
- AdamJacobMuller 4y agoWe were required to replace our smoke detectors with hardwired centrally-connected models during a home remodel in 1992. Replaced those with Nest models about a decade ago for remote monitoring.
