Recently came in contact with lawyer who charged over $400/hr fees. I was absolutely shocked that they can do that for the trivial work that they do. Most cases are cookie cutter and fill-in-template no-brainers but people tend to go to expensive lawyers just to feel safe and assured in time of crisis in their life. Lawyers take full advantage of this and tend to exploit people in crises to the maximum possible extent. This is not delivering value. Same for doctors. The doctors working in maternity wards routinely charge $500 for coming to you and looking your charts for like 5 minutes and never show their face again. Vast majority of their work is cookie-cutter and would eventually be automated but hospitals take full advantage of people who feel their life is at risk and tend to exploit them at maximum possible extent causing $2000/day maternity bills for absolutely normal pregnancies.
Another point is that developer salaries aren't set by charitable donations. They are set by revenues and companies pay according to value people generate. If author doesn't understand market, it doesn't mean market doesn't exist.
