Ask HN: What Is a NPC?
Curious to understand the definition of this term, which I’ve seen popping up a lot in HN threads lately.
I know the abbreviation, it means non player character, and I have a basic idea of how it’s used but the implication seems kind of indistinct.
For those that use this term in online conversations, what do you mean by it?
- throwaway29303 4y agoThe meaning is quite similar to when people used to call others "sheep." Someone who doesn't think for themselves, is naive and swallows everything they're told. Has a set of preprogrammed replies which mimic that of the majority. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=NPC https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=NPC
