Gun Detection System for Security Cameras in Python
- nosmokewhereiam 4y agoThis could be huge as a technology. It's a small script away ("if gun, then alert using recorded PA message and call police") from protecting capitols, grocery stores, rodeos, and dance clubs. This is the next seatbelt with regards to perceived public protection. Even sexier because you don't wear it. AI sucks, it'll kill or enslave us all one day if left unchecked, but this gun detection camera project is the begining of something safe and cool and can be implemented using cameras and equipment already in place.
- mlneo 4y agoYeah, the script will be very simple. The main challenge will be to collect and label enough real world examples of guns captured in security cameras, to increase the accuracy of the model to avoid false positives. In software 2.0, programming will be done in the space of data and not in actual code.
- hotpotamus 4y agoI know of a famous(ish?) youtuber who I believe was personally working on this with a friend's company a few years back. The US is an outlier in both access to guns and gun violence. Though it is considered gauche to tie those together, it is plainly obvious that they are linked.
- mlneo 4y agoSmarterEveryDay is a great channel! I believe that the US could benefit from this technology, it may be helpful in reducing school shooting deaths.
