Yeah, it's rough. I've had folks say things like "Hi, I'm new in the area and work in technology" then kind of ignore me when I say "Oh cool, I have a master's in information security, but I have a medical card so I'm not looking at clearance stuff, do you know anyone looking?", not really had much luck. Then you run into that person, the gentrifier, again and again, with this kind of... entitled cheer? And each time you just kind of want to remind them "Why would I be your friend?" (That's probably a bit much, but the truth is it's hard to trust people OP.)
