I'm not sure how they could. Last year they made around $4.5 billion in revenue from ads, they'd need around 50 million people paying the $8/month blue checkmark thing to replace that. iirc there's currently around 400,000 verified users now.

  I'm aware, I was trying to put into context how many payed users Twitter would need to replace add revenue, it's just unfeasible.
