- bsder 4y agoI consider Intel to be the evil empire, but the card is quite cost effective. Note the performance of things like DirectX 12 games and Blender. That means the undelrying architecture is pretty much spot on. The fact that these cards beat AMD at Blender should be an embarassment to AMD. The fact that these Intel cards do so poorly at DirectX 11 and earlier games shows just how much "performance" is due to nVidia and AMD putting in game specific hacks in their drivers.
- yazzku 4y agoWhere is this Intel/AMD Blender benchmark? DX11 (and OpenGL) need to do a bunch of resource tracking, barrier injection and ad-hoc re-programming of the pipeline. That stuff takes effort to do efficiently. I don't think the perf is simply due to game-specific arrangements. DX12/Vulkan just move all of that responsibility on to the application side, and you can see similar disparities among those applications themselves depending on how much time was put into optimizing the rendering.
- Kukumber 4y agoThe Intel cards are not good In MW2, released few days ago, the card shows pretty poor performance compared to 3yo AMD GPU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ4JDDCnOi0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ4JDDCnOi0
- moffkalast 4y agoOh interesting, it gets 25% more performance than.. a 1660 Ti? A card I bought 3 years ago for $243. Well as long as they're selling it for less than like $320 it should be fair I guess.
- sosodev 4y agoI think it's less game specific hacks and more just general optimization for those older APIs. There are indie OpenGL games that perform much much better on Nvidia despite having no chance of being on their radar.
- badsectoracula 4y agoYou can get much better performance on DX9..DX11 by using DXVK which doesn't have much in terms of game specific hacks. Intel simply didn't put much effort into implementing the older APIs despite there being thousands of games out there relying on them. At this point it might be smarter for them to assist in DXVK's development and making that the official way to play older games instead of redoing all the effort that AMD, Nvidia and of course DXVK devs have already done.
- galangalalgol 4y agoHow is their gpgpu performance?
- Sakos 4y agoIt's just the 1st gen though. If they don't give up, they can still turn into a decent competitor.
- sandworm101 4y agoFirst generation GPU, but intel is a great grandfather of anticompetative behavior. Nobody can call intel a newcommer to the public relations game. It looks like they arent going to change anytime soon.
