Tech workers brace for wintertime layoff surge
- bin_bash 4y ago> Workers in other industries were paying a heavy price for the pandemic. But tech continued to prosper. Is that really true? It seems to me most (though certainly not all) industries have been fairing pretty well up until now if we discount the first 2 months of the pandemic.
- Jemm 4y agoMaybe big tech shops did ok but smaller business for whom IT was just an expense, they tried to cut back as much as possible. For these smaller shops the risk of IT intrusion and attack is now a big problem. Sadly many of those are in health or social services.
- francisofascii 4y agoI agree. By heavy price they might mean tougher working conditions with wearing masks all day, teaching remote, etc.
- TheLoafOfBread 4y agoBig tech has troubles because people come back to work instead of sitting home for 2 years. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/30/technology/big-tech-pandemic.html https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/30/technology/big-tech-pande...
- etempleton 4y agoA lot of industries got hit pretty hard—travel, education, healthcare, non-profits, restaurants.
- hardware2win 4y agoWhat a beautiful quote >Tech is the most forward-looking of all industries, Axios' Felix Salmon notes. >You don't hire for where you're at today — you hire for where you aspire to be tomorrow.
