Almost 30% of People Redo or Refine Google Searches
- PaulHoule 4y agoSo what? When I was working on search engines a while ago I found there seems to be a hard limit of 70% precision at position 1 because it's impossible to know if a person searching for "jaguar" is interested in cars, cats, game consoles, or many other things. The search engine could try to guess, split the difference, etc. but it's not going to be right. (Something I was interested at the time that is still beyond state of the art is getting a good probability score for a document being relevant which would be good for making your own IBM Watson or for an alerting service which lets users feel like they are in control. When you talk to experts or look at the literature you find that what little research there is on this focuses on attributes of the query such as "estimating the difficulty of the query".)
