Ask HN: What are the best open source communities?
I'm looking for open source communities (not projects) that are supportive, interpersonal, not like a forum but somewhere that people actually get to know each other. What are good options, if any?

Also communities change, so what may have been great a year ago may not be so great now. Small and new tends to be the most welcoming, large and established not always so much. I think understanding what interests you should play a major factor as well, for example there are (still) a number of upstart crypto projects that have great communities, but maybe that's not something you are interested in. getverse.com is one example, they have their own discord and telegram/twitter channel.
