I hated facebook and instagram soooooo much during HS and college... but there was really no choice. EVERYONE was on these platforms. People would immediately judge you as a weirdo if you weren't. I would have given anything for a youth in which I didn't have to deal with these platforms... but that's beside the point, which is that the network effects here were very strong, so strong in fact that resisting them would have really kind of hurt you socially.
