Are you suggesting a desantis style operation for the homeless? Unlikely, else we would hear about it.
But since it is probably better to be homeless in California than in other neighbouring states, they probably passively make their way there through push pull factors.
- alephnerd 4y agoNevada did this to California a couple years ago actually [0][1]. That said, a number of major em cities such as New York do offer homeless people the choice to accept a lump sum and a ticket to the city of their choice IN RETURN for them being ineligible to homeless services in the source city [2][3]. - mamonster 4y agoWow. Thank you very much for the links, I guess I was completely misinformed with regards to this already being a policy for some local governments.
- js2 4y agoThe first time I heard of this was Atlanta dealing with its homeless population before the 1996 Olympics and I'm sure that wasn't the first time. It's been going on a long time: https://archive.seattletimes.com/archive/?date=19960322&slug=2320280 https://archive.seattletimes.com/archive/?date=19960322&slug... Atlanta also dealt with homelessness by criminalizing it and putting folks in jail: https://www.nytimes.com/1996/07/01/us/as-olympics-approach-homeless-are-not-feeling-at-home-in-atlanta.html https://www.nytimes.com/1996/07/01/us/as-olympics-approach-h...
