The Mennonite Airbnb Hustler of Upper Manhattan, “The Wolf of Airbnb,” Indicted
- randycupertino 4y agoTLDR: Bicher called himself "The Wolf of Airbnb," leased dozens of apartments, breaking them into short-term rentals that he then listed on Airbnb, Craigslist, Facebook’s Gypsy Housing, and other online marketplaces for a pyramid scheme to collect security deposits. When renters showed up they would find other people already living in the units. Landlords who tried to crack down on his illegal sublets couldn't get rid of him when he claimed COVID hardships. edit: Southern District of New York press release for the indictment: https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/wolf-airbnb-indicted-connection-scheme-defraud-new-york-city-landlords-and-ppp-fraud https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/wolf-airbnb-indicted-co...
