This is a fun book in this genre for anyone who's interested. It has a section on Hallaj: https://www.amazon.com/Tales-Land-Sufis-Mojdeh-Bayat/dp/1570628912 https://www.amazon.com/Tales-Land-Sufis-Mojdeh-Bayat/dp/1570... I randomly picked it off the shelf of my university library one time when I was taking a religious studies class that touched on mysticism. It's mostly just a collection of mythology and tales about a collection of famous Sufis. Fun read.
