American LNG exports are surging, on the back of European demand [video]
- programmer_dude 4y agoProbably why the Nordstream pipelines were blown up in a hurry.
- lost_tourist 4y agoThat was the Russians.
- dontlaugh 4y agoFor what reason? The Russians could always just not send gas. It’s the US, Poland, Norway, Ukraine and arguably the UK that would benefit.
- lost_tourist 4y agoNo it wasn't. The Russians had by far the most to gain, it was an egotistical decision by Putin to blow it and show "he means business"
- programmer_dude 4y agoYes, what other way could he have done it other than shooting his own foot off? LOL.
- V__ 4y agoThere are multiple possible reasons for Putin doing it: Show any opposition in his ranks that reverting to old relations with Europe won't be possible, so either go with the program or lose it all. Show Europe what could happen to other critical infrastructure if they continue to support Ukraine. The attack on German rail communication shortly after could be related to this. Try to sow distrust between Europe and the U.S. as a hail marry attempt. We don't know what kind of back-channel communication is going on, so this one may be a mystery for some time.
- pencilguin 4y agoThere are also reasons for Putin's Russian opponents to have done it. We still don't know, and may never.
- pencilguin 4y agoAnd recently NG price dropped negative in Europe. Just a month ago people here were carrying on about how dumb it was for Germany to have shut down a few nukes, and how they were all going to freeze in the dark. One may reasonably doubt they will announce how ashamed they are of having been so tendentiously wrong, or that they will be any more careful in the future.
- TheLoafOfBread 4y agoIt is still dumb as negative price is only for spot prices and EU is not buying for spot prices but for deals negotiated with a gas price in advance, usually for years to follow.
- pencilguin 4y agoGermans are not, in fact, freezing in the dark.
