Is it not the same as "British Scottish"?
(Spain being the larger unit)
- ThePowerOfFuet 4y ago>Is it not the same as "British Scottish"? No, because [Great] Britain is comprised of three countries: England, Scotland, and Wales, which is a level of respect Madrid has yet to afford Catalonia. Perhaps Spain will one day become a republic of states, in which case Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Galicia will be the first three in line along with however else the rest of the autonomous communities organise themselves. Better yet, those three will regain their independence and Madrid can rule over those regions which have traditionally (well, since the Moors left, anyway) spoken Spanish. (As an aside, ever since the Partition of Ireland, the UK is more formally known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.)
- harperlee 4y agoPerhaps! But calling the current constitutional arrangements that favour Catalonia or the Basque country over other regions of the country a lack of respect is some mental gymnastics. UK and Spain don’t have the same history, so there might be other reasons apart from “respect” that make the status quo. Also, ask the northern irish about their general concept of british respect of nationalities…
