Is there a way with Mastodon to have an account on a hosted server but use an ID from a domain you control? Like if I wanted to have my ID be @me@social.apitman

Seems like it should be possible with Let's Encrypt.
- Cyberdog 4y agoSome third-party fediverse hosts allow you to point your own custom (sub)domain at the instance they operate for you; you can also just set up your own instance. Not sure what Let's Encrypt would have to do with this, though.
- anderspitman 4y agoWithout Let's Encrypt or something similar it would be a pain to get TLS certs for every user's domain.
- OctopusLupid 4y agoYou can take a look at https://masto.host https://masto.host if you want your own managed server, but you'll have to do your own inter-server moderation in that case.
