> Millions have been using the Fediverse for years
Any evidence for this? Seems like this is something a few hundred or thousand even know about. That's a far cry from hundreds of thousands of millions.
- blacklight 4y agoThere are 6M estimated accounts, and 1.5M active users: https://fediverse.party/en/fediverse/ https://fediverse.party/en/fediverse/
- criddell 4y agoSo it’s basically as popular as MySpace is these days.
- blitzar 4y ago29 Sept 2022 — More than 1.5m active users of DALL-E are creating more than 2m images a day.
- criddell 4y agoIt feels like the AI image generators got huge overnight but the hype has faded away almost as fast. In my family, we were obsessed with them for about 72 hours and I haven’t heard anybody mention them since. I know it’s still there if I ever have a need for them, but I don’t really have any interest in using them anymore.
- collegeburner 4y agotbh the only time i hear about ai image generators now is with the craiyon memes and even those have tapered off. however i have seen a few articles using them to create title images and some presentations using them instead of stock images.
- Zak 4y agoAnd I'm one of them... or six of them. Assuming accounts are people will overcount the latter. There is an active and growing userbase though. The mentality is different than corporate social media; things move slower, including user growth.

Earth human population: ~7 billion. 7 000 000 000. I didn't realize Twitter was expanding into the nonhuman market. Or are there more humans outside of Earth that no one told me about? Far cry indeed.
- adolph 4y agoIn addition to humans there are brands yearning for recognition
- vntok 4y agoAlso pets, objects, ideas and parodies.
- garbagetime 4y agoI have like four accounts each of which I use at least occasionally
- rhn_mk1 4y agoCan we say that any of those are "using" Twitter though? I'm on the fence whether brands do.
- adolph 4y agoI thought that Simon Williston’s dog used Twitter usefully but on review it turns out, no Cleo uses 4square. https://simonwillison.net/2020/Nov/14/personal-data-warehouses/ https://simonwillison.net/2020/Nov/14/personal-data-warehous...
