My wife kind of did this for awhile and it left her feeling uninformed when hanging out with friends. One friend would mention something and everyone would be like "ah, yes, that thing" and she would be like "what??? that's happening??". I definitely agree that news is addicting and a waste of time but I do like to be in the loop.
