Jack Dorsey's new social media platform sees 30K sign-ups after Twitter takeover
- Ambolia 4y agoDorsey mentioned in an interview regreting not making Twitter "api-first", will be interesting to see if he truly embraces this. Would be nice to have something like Twitter but be able to implement or use your own algorithms to populate the timeline.
- SQueeeeeL 4y agoUltimately, unless a platform is open source like Usenet, they have no reason to enable API access long-term. It can be a useful tool to get buy in from highly engaged users but ultimately is a liability because it limits your ability to serve ads (see Reddit). Even if that means you alienate your core users and send your platform into a death spiral, quarter driven middle managers don't care. So don't get your hopes too high, or at least, have a backup social media site when this cycle starts back up in 5 years.
- ilrwbwrkhv 4y agoDorsey's social media will not gain any traction. 30K is nothing.
- klyrs 4y agoHow many bots?
- karmakaze 4y ago"API first" would indicate bots only to start.
- lupire 4y agoThey signed up for the email list. The platform doesn't exist yet.
