Sure, it's a spectrum. People use the same argument to justify removing minimum working age laws, weekend laws, OSHA laws, EPA protections, retirement, healthcare etc. In a pure unregulated market, employers would be able to offer employees much higher salaries! The reality is somewhere in the middle. Though what America thinks is reasonable is very different than what the rest of the developed world thinks is.
