Russia tries to impose switch to Linux from Windows
- jbirer 4y agoIt's pretty funny to see Linux become the OS that is being imposed by government/corporate after all of these years of Microsoft being in that role.
- tinglymintyfrsh 4y agoI think the EU tried Linux and LibreOffice. How'd that go?
- simonblack 4y agoSome places good, some places returned to MSFT after it was made financially worth-while. Linux and Libre Office works for me. YMMV. Not everybody can or wants to drive a Mercedes. Their choice is their choice. It doesn't change my life at all.
- Kukumber 4y agoWell, they built a monopoly and now everyone surprised there is no proper competition (schools/institutions were forced to accept microsoft's contracts, strong lobby) They start by playing the innocent little girl, they cry because others do better than them, then few years later everyone is surprised they became a monopoly and everyone has to depend on their bloat because there is 0 competition, recent example: [1] But that's ok because it's our friend, our allies But now imagine we have to include the military, the US army has HoloLens, which was a failure [1], while China already concluded their tests and are using their AR headsets today [1] - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33410252 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33410252 [2] - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/10/microsoft-mixed-reality-headsets-nauseate-soldiers-in-us-army-testing/ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/10/microsoft-mixed-real...
- simonblack 4y agoThe move is meant to insulate the country from being cut off by Microsoft. More likely is the fact that Microsoft has been suborned by the three-letter organisations over the years to supply them with information. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSAKEY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSAKEY
