I'm reading "The Vital Question" right now and it seems to have a really good answer to how life formed on earth from inorganic processes and chemicals. I think given that explanation and the specifics, it's just realllyyy hard to get the conditions for life. It's super rare to not only have the conditions to start making amino acids but even more rare to have them assemble and create an actual single celled organism.
