Not only is there no right answer, but the right answer changes day by day, hour by hour. It’s the central meta-decision. Making this decision with good judgement is one of the key skills of a good engineer. Someone who applies “worse is better” regardless of the context is a bad engineer. Someone who never finishes anything because they’re overthinking and overabstracting is likewise a bad engineer.
