- nl 4y agoTo quote the article: > Just as moving VPS companies kicked the can to the next VPS company. Just as getting my own IPs kicked the can to upstream. Just as getting a stable upstream kicked the can to DDoS mitigation.
- bullen 4y agook, then maybe we need http://radiomesh.org http://radiomesh.org after all? My point is if everyone hosts all their production from home they can't control it, you cannot DDoS all IPs at the same time.
- Gigachad 4y agoHe is able to run the site on Tor just fine. The problem is that without being a normal clearnet site, your community will die off.
- boredhedgehog 4y agoThat's a bit of a chicken-egg problem, as Tor still lacks a killer app. A popular Tor-only forum might just be what it takes to drive wider adoption.
- Gigachad 4y agoIt would only really work if browsers implemented tor support by default. But I can’t see that happening. There is also the issue of it being super slow.
- whoooooo123 4y agoBrave implements Tor support by default.
- RunSet 4y agoBe aware there have been many instances where Brave's implementation of Tor leaks user information that Tor Browser does not. Notably, keeping javascript enabled during "Tor mode" even if the user has explicitly disabled javascript. https://community.brave.com/t/tor-mode-always-has-javascript-enabled/85503 https://community.brave.com/t/tor-mode-always-has-javascript... I recommend using Tor browser and using about:config to set javascript.enabled to "false".

- 0x445442 4y agoYeah, this is the way. There are still BBS’s out there with FidoNet coordinates. Granted, most are using the telnet protocol but there are some dial up boards still in existence. As far as I know you can still run at 56k over cell phone connections. I bet for ~$100 per month you could run a dial up BBS that supports 5 lines with a FidoNet address. It’s only good for text but the protocol and bandwidth are adequate for that and text is sufficient to distribute ideas. Also, because this is happening over VOIP I think the content is protected by common carrier laws.
