I assume the reason they work so well in China is that they open into some nice UI everyone uses / is fairly standardized in WeChat or AliPay or something. Our internet model is very different from theirs with the Super Apps
- PakG1 4y agoThis is it. I lived in China for a decade and only started seeing the WeChat menus for everything only in the last couple of years I was there. It was SO convenient and easy to use. Much nicer than trying to flip through a physical menu, flag down a waiter, have them write down my order, etc. But I imagine it would suck if I had to open a different UI every single time. The UI I used was tried and true, efficient, and user-friendly, could depend on it working well no matter where I went.
- eru 4y agoThey work well in Singapore too, but typically don't open in an super app. It's typically just a website. (The restaurants don't really like dealing with the super apps like Grab, because they take a 30% cut.)
