Your thinking ignores that there are many other uses for hydrogen. There is this chart [1] that clearly states where we should go for clean hydrogen production first and where it may not be worthwhile. And what I am noticing, that is more or less where the industry here in europe is going: some experiments in different areas but focus is the chemical industry and soon steel.
