This is very far from my experience, when I was an undergraduate, I asked (and answered, when I could) dozens of questions on Math StackExchange. As long as you do a solid amount of research to make sure the answer isn't already out there, state the problem clearly, put some effort into solving it yourself (e.g. a couple of lines about what you've tried, or where you're stuck in the proof), I've seen good results.
