Why Elon Musk's Twitter deal matters for everyone
- HardwareLust 4y agoIt matters in the sense I'm going to delete my Twitter account and will no longer be using it. I didn't use it much though, so it's not like it's a great loss.
- leephillips 4y agoI’ve heard a lot of people saying this. I’m curious about the reasons: why would the change of ownership make you decide to delete your account?
- foxyv 4y agoI think it's because Musk plans to un-ban a lot of... controversial people.
- rini17 4y agoWhen the new owner immediately fires whole top management, that's much more than mere "change of ownership". It's hostile takeover. By someone who has repeatedly shown very naive approach to freedom of speech.
- proc0 4y agoi guess that's the dividing question at hand. What happens when you let culture self-regulate its own speech, instead of these companies doing it on behalf of everyone like some kind of moral paragon when we all know many things aren't absolute or resolved and multiple conflicting opinions will always exist.
- rini17 4y ago4chan happens.
- Normille 4y agoIt really doesn't matter a fig to me and [I presume] the millions of other people who have no interest in using Twitter or any other social media. Of course, if you're part of one of the echo chambers that does, it's probably really newsworthy stuff.
- proc0 4y agoEven if you're not part of it, enough people are such that it influences culture and then it comes around to everyone anyway.
