Something tells me that a lot of the people who've spent the last ten years insisting that "they're a private company, they can do whatever they want" are going to change their minds about that.
- gremlinsinc 4y agoProbably not because us in the left are generally non conformist. We don't just go with the flow because we're expected or follow party lines... I'm not a Biden fan but even if Bernie had an allegation against him I'd say let's hear it and get the truth. Truth matters, facts matter, and nobody should be above the law or the TOS as it may be for a private company. Though, if they stray too far one way politically they risk finding it hard to find developers and having their apps slapped by Google and Apple or even cloudflare, or a mass Exodus of members to a new platform. Personally I think some hybrid of Twitter and TikTok will hit soon that'll basically end fb, and twitters dominance.... Reddit will be fine though. But something better for short form content in video, audio, and text formats.
- Ancapistani 4y ago> us in the left are generally non conformist That was true in the distant past, but in the past decade or two it seems to be changing from my perspective. For context, my perspective is that of an extreme libertarian who was raised and lives in a very "red" state. The major political parties offer a fair example of this - the GOP had the "Never Trumpers" who consistently and publicly opposed the party's presidential nominee (and later, the party's President). There are often right-wing "spoiler" candidates that run alongside Republicans and dilute the vote. On the other hand, I don't recall the last time there was a popular left-wing "spoiler" in a race. Democrats are very good at uniting behind a single candidate and getting a subset of their agenda pushed through. Republicans seem to infight the entire time, even when they have power.
- Shared404 4y agoDem's do not equal left unfortunately. Dems are good at uniting, but (as a lefty myself) we are just as bad as republican's as far as infighting goes. E: Usually we are pretty good at skipping spoiler candidates though, there is that.
- Shared404 4y agoE: gremlinsinc's comment is much better than mine. Go read that instead Nah, they're still a private company and can do what they want - within bounds of law of course. It's just funny to watch the train wreck.
- Comevius 4y agoThey can do whatever they want, that's a given. The advertisers can do too. Welcome to hell, Elon. You fucked up real good, kiddo. https://www.theverge.com/2022/10/28/23428132/elon-musk-twitter-acquisition-problems-speech-moderation https://www.theverge.com/2022/10/28/23428132/elon-musk-twitt...
- ZGDUwpqEWpUZ 4y ago> You fucked up real good, kiddo. It's so fun to watch this impotent seething. I don't even have the words to describe it. Beautiful.
- Comevius 4y ago> impotent seething Interesting word choice from a man who idealizes people like Trump and Musk, can't stop posting about how oppressed and marginalized men is, and calls transgender women men.
- ZGDUwpqEWpUZ 4y agoI don't idealize Trump. I said he was objectively right about Russia in one conversation where he got laughed at for saying they're a threat and that Germany is too dependent upon them for energy [1]. Nothing about that involves seething. I agree he was a terrible president overall, and I've said as much. I don't misgender people, either. Never have. I just don't demand everybody else should have the same view. Again, no seething. And why would I stop posting about male sexual assault victims? I am one, I am mad about it, and you bringing it up shows what kind of "person" [2] wants to control the conversation :) [1] https://youtube.com/watch?v=M5MJEMHZZsI https://youtube.com/watch?v=M5MJEMHZZsI [2] https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/the-problem-with-fake-male-feminists https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/the-problem-with-fake-...
- Comevius 4y ago> I am one, I am mad about it I didn't know that. That sucks. Unfortunately it is an underreported issue because of the stigma. > he was objectively right about Russia The media presented it like he was a genius stating the obvious in the middle of his isolationist speech. It was an obvious talking point. He certainly did a lot to cozy up to Russia, and more so to Saudi Arabia.
