Really disappointed to see Novara print this drivel, but it tracks with the greater “left’s” failure to see this situation clearly. I actually stopped reading after it discussed the failure of the Minsk Accords— as it totally obscured, if not fabricated the sequence of events. That was completely on the European powers as guarantors, and those who follow closely know that Putin wanted that agreement to be successful (even refusing to recognize the territories as anything more than autonomous Ukrainian provinces, despite their population voting for independence). Even Zelensky went to the East and declared that the war needed to come to an end. The Azov neonazis basically told him he would hang in the streets if he made peace with Russia, and that was that.

The Minsk accords and many other events are exactly why Ukraine won’t negotiate. Ukraine gave up their nukes for a guarantee from russia, a guarantee that wasn’t kept.
