These people are uneducated anti-human Malthusians. In their world, all fossil fuels projects are bad, and all solar/wind projects are good. That is an uneducated and unscientific framing of the problem that will yield a terrible solution space. In their view, it's a great win to block a natural gas or shale oil project, even though the result of that is Germany chain-smoking lignite coal, and Germany and other European countries shutting down energy intensive fertilizer plants that help feed the world.
