Outage Stories: The Flapping Link
- incomingpain 4y agoSo I'm not sure from the blog the dates when this happened, 'early in his career' If this was early 2000s, maybe late 90s. I can add lots to this story. All of this info was well known to many teams, there were many overloaded links. It was all in legislative hell. We couldn't get the right to put new telephone polls up nor install to existing polls. We wanted new polls on new paths but we couldn't get through various first nations. Some national parks got in the way. Various cities wouldn't approve. They wanted their bikeshed as it were. Then when we even got the easements, it was winter and the fiber teams were quitting because it was -30c and they are working out of the back of uninsulated unicell vans with the door cracked. They couldn't even turn off their diesel trucks, else there was no way to turn them on even if they plugged in the block heaters.
