When and where do engineers prioritize anything? Everywhere I've ever worked has had a task queue (these days its JIRA, but it was always something) that were prioritized by almost anybody except a programmer.
- Hackbraten 4y agoMore often than not, you do have a say in prioritization as an engineer. But that won’t happen unless you speak up.
- sharemywin 4y agoAnd have a convincing argument.
- jesuscript 4y agoIt’s a new job that software provides. There is now a bug curator (usually non technical) that serves almost like an account manager for a client. They are in the middle. Usually, developers would prioritize based on the frequency of certain bugs. The faux account manager might prioritize by importance of the client.
- throwawaysleep 4y agoYeah, I suppose it depends on the org, but engineering is really execution only in many places. We get told which tickets to work on by someone who does make those decisions, work on them, and get new tickets. I like it as it means I don’t need to pay attention in meetings :). Context isn’t my job.
