This happened not just once, but with 2 people (1 full stack engineer who is a HN regular, and another was an account manager). We've had several instances of foreign contracting companies forging identities and using paid actors (who sound and act American) in order to get into our company. Not only do these scams seem somewhat common they are also a massive security risk. We usually find out quickly because there is almost always an inconsistency in their employment history.
