Brilliant. How did they miss this opportunity and double down on VR?
- tablespoon 4y ago>> Instead of investing 10 Billion in VR, seems like Meta should have built a phone as good as the iPhone but cheaper since advertising on phones is their bread and butter > Brilliant. How did they miss this opportunity and double down on VR? They tried building a phone when Facebook was more trusted, and it failed. A Facebook Phone project in 2022 would almost certainly be doomed to failure. IIRC, VR was an acquisition and it's more of a wide-open area than phones, so it's more plausible (but still unlikely) they could see success there.
- BizarroLand 4y agoWhen I heard that facebook was buying oculus I honestly believed that it was a terrible idea and that it would ruin what VR can be in a soulless, dirty, ugly corporate cashgrab that made no sense and that was ill-guided, ill-intended, and hopeless. I had no idea that they would completely fail to do a cashgrab and instead make the entire experience either so expensive or so terrible that no one would want to participate in it.
