I wonder why this war would "shape the fate of democracy in this century", and not the wars and interventions and regime change in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ethiopia, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon/Israel/Iran/etc., Myanmar, Yemen, Georgia, Ukraine circa 2014, China/Tibet/Hong Kong/Taiwan/Xinjiang/Mongolia/etc., not to mention the countless examples all over the world including the creation and ultimate destruction of the USSR throughout the 1900s.
Doesn't really add up. China, ME, USA, and Africa will be vastly, vastly more consequential this century in terms of people affected and global impact, than Russia's border wars. Except that it's pretty short sighted to push Russia toward China IMO, although that might be exactly how things were orchestrated, in which case we could also file it in the China/USA box.
