Asdf is a great boon when upgrading language versions in a git branch and needing to switch back and forth between that branch and another feature branch without the upgraded language version. Switching back and forth between branches with .tool-versions seamlessly switches to the correct version of the language and it “just works”. Trying to accomplish the same purely via docker is slow and painful.
