Today i had a somewhat similar experience. The printer at one of my step grandpas location was on and off working. I quickly noticed problems with the networking (wireless) and several other wireless stations in the same building. Appears the issue was automatic channel setting in his wireless router (clashes with other stations sharing the same channel, probably).
After changing the routers defaults to fixed channels everything worked like a charm and the printer had stable networking. He told me they apparently had the same problem with their old printer, which they assumed was broken and was disposed...
What a waste of money and resources, the other printer clearly suffered from the same issues caused by the default ISP router configuration and it would have been fixable...
